Stress prevention | Plan like Lady Prosperity

So what exactly is the problem that can play a role.

You could then think of:

  • a pandemic like Covid-19, with all the measures we should follow to keep our society as healthy as possible. We are starting to notice that people are getting “tired” of it.
  • Not to mention stress and tension busy (family) life and not getting to your own time
  • changes in / in daily life (ad hoc situations)
  • high working pressure
  • stress / tension / worries

This is just a small selection of how you can overwork or burn out. Or maybe you recognize this more as stress in your life. Or do you feel down / depressed because you only work and do not really get to things that give you pleasure or energy. I looked up some information to give a good description of stress.

Stress

Everyone experiences stress from time to time, but what if it lasts longer, is severe or you experience stress complaints? Serious stress complaints contribute to the development of a burnout, depression or anxiety disorder. You want to get ahead of that.

What is stress?

With stress you have the feeling that you cannot meet the demands that are placed on you by your environment (or by yourself). For example, do you still have a lot of work to do and is the deadline getting closer? Or is there a visitor on the sidewalk in an hour and you still have to start cleaning the house? These are situations where you can experience stress. In other words: the load is greater than the load capacity.

I once read in an article that successful people do not work from a to do list, but from their agenda. In my opinion, that is the most relaxing way to get your work done. Whether that is for work or for your private life. Getting work done is something I really want. It gives me a sense of satisfaction that something is done. And even if they are small steps. Then they are still small steps forward to the big picture that you want to achieve.

Healthy & Unhealthy stress

Acute stress ensures that you function as well as possible in an emergency situation, such as danger or intense exertion. Your blood pressure and heart rate rise, your breathing speeds up and your body produces adrenaline. When the danger is over, or you have completed the task, your body settles down and you have to recover. There are also emotional situations in which you experience long-term stress and the same stress reaction arises: divorce, deadline for work or school, being unemployed, death of a loved one. If the balance between stress and recovery is not there, then the stress is unhealthy for you.

Chronic stress

If you constantly feel that you are under stress, or have to “fight” or “flee”, we speak of chronic stress. Even if you do not get out of a stress state when the danger has passed, chronic stress threatens. Chronic stress negatively affects how you feel. Chronic stress, for example, increases the risk of cardiac arrhythmias and burnout, anxiety disorders and depression are lurking in the face of persistent stress.

When I experience a lot of stress in my (daily) life, I often look first at my daily pattern. Where is my time and energy going. What exactly is it that makes me live so tense. With this I often see that I have worked in a less structured way. Or that I miss moments to work on the things that give me energy and / or make me happy.

The biggest reason for my planning is that I think in advance about what my time will be spent on. Sometimes as a mother you can be overwhelmed by a lot of ad hoc situations that happen in and around your house. That requires you to switch quickly. As a result, you can go off your schedule and postpone it. The solution to this is to plan space, so that you also have time for those unexpected things.

When I think of unexpected situations, I think of things like doing everything on time and neatly in the morning. And one of the children knocks over a cup of milk. And the other cannot find his school bag. These things take time. Imagine that you would schedule 5 extra minutes for these kinds of things. Then it makes a difference in the morning to be at school on time. I also set my alarm for 8:10 am so that I am reminded that from then on they have to put on their coat and shoes. In this way you also avoid the stress of the time pressure to get somewhere on time.

Of course it starts with yourself about how you think about the pressure you are experiencing. I often hear women doing many things, but not getting enough of their own care. Make sure you can unwind from time to time. Taking breaks without feeling guilty. But also being physically comfortable in your own skin, through sports.

Why plan?

The reason I am so on time management is because you become so aware of your time use. Being aware of it also ensures that you realize that you are the one who determines how your day will look like. Scheduling your recharging breaks is extremely important. You can decide for yourself when you will start producing happy substances in your brain. You can read more about this in my blog post: Happy chemicals in your brain. But also insert your own time. To work on yourself, your dreams, but also your physical well-being is extremely important.

The moment you start to see yourself as important, you will fill in your agenda as well. We are all working on something. But let’s work on a strong self so that we can give the best to our environment.

In the bible it says … Love your neighbor, as yourself. This has a requirement that you love yourself. And loving yourself means taking care of yourself & your time.
