Tips on how to become a bosslady about your time

In addition to working, busy family life, household, all kinds of appointments, how do you manage to stay in charge of your own time. Very simple: time management. Only now timemanament as a boss lady!

I have experienced first-hand to let my time be swallowed up by everyday things. Where I was very strong in the workplace, I did not appear to apply for myself. I noticed at one point that I had filled my days with all kinds of activities. But i missed something. Even though I was doing really nice things, that incomplete feeling stuck. That’s why I had to be very honest with myself about what I really think of the things I did. And especially the things I didn’t do.

The pitfalls of a full agenda is that you have a lot to do in too little time. Where you can lose track and feel that you are too busy for the fun things. As a result, it makes it easier to bury your own dreams, visions and goals. The reality is that you work more than you have fun or go towards your dream life. What if the next step could lead you to burnout? Believe me, I’ve been through them all.

But now for the good news! How I got my time back under my control. And with that get a satisfied feeling at the end of the day. In short, the roadmap looks like this.

5 Steps plan:

  1. 1. Mindmapping
  2. 2. Schedule priorities
  3. 3. (MS Office 365) Plan calendar
  4. 3.a Leisure spending
  5. 3.b Taking breaks (think ergonomically responsible)
  6. 3.c Important appointments
  7. 4. Morning Glory | ME time
  8. 5. Delegate, halve, on the to-do list

Explanation of the steps:

1. In my previous blog post I talked about mind mapping. This allows you to brainstorm very well about the daily things you want and/or need to do. But what’s so great about mind mapping is that you can also use it to find out what tasks you have to do in your week. Think of: work/your business, household, family, leisure, goals/vision etc. This allows you to further unwrite each subject that falls under it. This will give a nice overview in your list to do in a short time.

2. Then it comes to prioritizing. I also have a nice method for this. Below I show an example of such a priorities schedule. You make 4 boxes with top left “very important, do a.s.a.p” top right “important, but can do later” lower left “not important, but still do” and bottom right “not important, can be done later” Then you grab your mind folder and start giving each part a spot in the diagram. Which is very useful to mention how much time you will spend on the task. This makes filling in your calendar a little easier.

Microsoft office 365 Calendar

I’ve been a loyal user of hotmail for centuries, yes, for centuries. Hotmail is from Microsoft and that includes the MS office – Calendar. Through a video I like to show how I fill out the agenda. This can of course also be done with the Google calendar. But even if you carry a physical agenda, this method is very easy to apply. You can add an english translation to the video in YouTube.

3. a Leisure: this is about your goals, your dreams, your vision. This is about what you want to do for yourself. Think of things that give you relaxation. Short activities, which you can do at home. Take a wellness moment at home in the bath. But also long activities that you want to do outside the door. for example, go to the sauna. Or to the nail salon. You can also think of sports activities to achieve your sports goals. And hang out on the couch with a nice movie or Netflix. Fits in very well. But when I talk about dreams. Then it’s about going one step further than just doing something for leisure. Then it’s about a vision you have. And a goal you want to achieve. For me, that was creating a website last year, where I can post blog posts about the topics I like. And that was a goal that I could write out (mind mapping style) and fill in my calendar as a task.

3.b. Taking breaks in your day is very important. This is the time you can charge to handle the next few hours properly. If, like me, you do a lot of screen work, then taking a break every 2hours is not an unnecessary luxury. And then that pause is there to keep your eyes off. So something of a feeding break or an activity break (walk).

3.c. You can also include all important appointments in your calendar. Of course you are in control of your agenda. And you decide when to schedule an appointment in your day.

4. Morning Glory | ME time is what I call my morning time with God. That’s the time I take to pray, to read the Bible. But also take a piece of time for gratitude. And to write down what my dreams, vision and goals are for the time to come. A time of reflection, but also to start my day with the most important thing in my life.

I enjoy the moments when it’s quiet in the house. And even though I’d rather be the only one awake in the evening. Nevertheless, starting the day in this way is very soothing for the rest of the day. I’ll tell you more about this later.

5. And now for the tips for delegating, halving and placing on your to do list.

Delegating: is for all the tasks you can have someone else do. If you see any chance that someone can do this for you, it will give you time again. This money also for your business. If someone specializes in, for example, calendar management. Like me in my field. And you have a lot of time in scheduling appointments from your clientele. Then outsourcing is something that will give you more, which is time. Then you do it yourself. Because the time you do something, you can only spend once. And I believe that if everyone does what he/she is good at. That you’ll get the best out of the best.

Halving is about the next thing. Some appointments that you previously schedule as an hour can be done efficiently in half an hour or 45 minutes. If you send the content in advance, for example. Mindmapping works extremely well to write down what your main lines are in conversations you are going to have. Or tasks that need to be done.

Try to shut down all distractions. What can be very distracting are those sounds from your mobile phone. I deliberately turn off the sound and vibrate the phone.

To do list: everything you have placed in your priorities scheme under the 4th box. Can be on your to do list. In the order you care about. And you can put that part in your calendar weekly as something that you will consistently address weekly. A nice thing about this is cleaning up your house. Think of kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, pantries. The barn or garage. If you take one task a week from this, you will see a nice progress over time.

So here are my tips to fill in your calendar as efficiently as possible.
